Self‑creating login broken on DIY

After an upgrade on Feb 3, the DIY service kept an old process running, so self‑service account creation failed. 12 users hit the “account creation failed” error between 12:01 AM and 9:33 AM. The process was restarted, the new version took over and login creation works again. Sorry for the hassle!

Order services directly on DIY

A new, for now experimental, feature is live on DIY, where you can “order” services directly by clicking the + on the right side.

Ordering a product.

This includes:

Accounts: temporary logins, new groups, or guest accounts.
Storage: new volumes or cloud endpoints on volumes.
Email: create new aliases and mailman lists.
Contact us: send an email to the helpdesk.

Some services are directly provisioned, for others we still send an email to helpdesk@science.ru.nl where we need to implement the request manually.

Check Date

This date is used to track the validity of this Science account. Near the check date the IT contact person of that account will receive a request to advance this date into the future. The aim of this feature is to make sure Science accounts are actually used and dormant ones are, eventually, removed.

Manipulating the account's check date.

In this form, you can extend the accounts check date by half a year (+½), a full year (+1), or go the other way and decrease it by half a year (-½).

New DIY website live on Thurday March 20th

After our previous news message concerning the new implementation of DIY, we are now ready to announce:

The new DIY will go live on Thursday the 20th of March.

The previous DIY server will be kept running on https://prev.dhz.science.ru.nl. If there is are things that work in the old one, but not in the new one, please let us know.

The old DIY will be turned off ~~on the first~~ the 11^th of April 2025.
