A security issue was found in our gitlab installation. However the version we have installed doesn’t look to be vulnerable (we are running the exploit ourselves and getting no results). Meanwhile we are working on upgrading our GitLab installation(s) to make it easier to follow newer GitLab releases. We are aware of the Mattermost/GitLab split, but without an alternative, we need Mattermost to keep on running. We are planning to upgrade gitlab.science.ru.nl on Thursday September 17th, this will involve some downtime for both gitlab and mattermost. (upgrade completed successfully)

For years now Gitlab has bundled Mattermost as an integrated component for online chats, however this situation is changing, and Mattermost has announced that it is dropping support for single-sign-on (SSO). This is turn makes the integration with Gitlab unusable, thus Gitlab is now pondering dropping support altogether. This is unfortunate timing as we are working on tighter integration between science groups and Mattermost channels. Provisional Plan So what are we going to do about this? After an automatic update, Mattermost no longer starts. The issue has been identified; the solution requires relocating the installation. This may take some time. Mattermost is now running on a different server as gitlab, which was a lot of work to figure out, but all should be well now. For some people it may have been longer before everything worked, due to dns caching of the hostname mattermost.science.ru.nl to the wrong address.

After the package for gitlab was updated, the service did not come up again, due to a problem with post-install scripts. After rebooting the package installation could finish and service was restored.

Due to the expiration of an LDAP certificate, it is temporarily not possible to log in to various services. A new certificate is being installed urgently. Affected services include Eduroam in combination with Science logins, VPN, GitLab and Mattermost.

Friday`April 21 at 10 o’clock C&CZ will commence a GitLab server migration. During the migration, working with Gitlab will not be possible. Because Mattermost is running on the same installation of Gitlab, it will be unavailable during the process as well. We expect things to be up and running again around noon.

Due to a simple management command the switch (as-ak008-04) crasht and had to be reset manually. The switch sits between the network and servers for gitlab+mattermost, licenses and the database for DHZ(diy).

A critical security update for GitLab has been released and is being installed this moment. During the update, GitLab is offline.
