Just like every year during the Christmas break, in the next weeks a full backup of many servers/filesystems onto tape will be made, that is preserved a long time. This will have the effect that servers will sometimes react slower during this period.

With the lower prices for network discs and backup, several departments have started the move from locally managed discs to backupped fileservers of C&CZ. In general this has big advantages for reliability, backup and access rights that can be mananaged by the department itself. Biggest disadvantage is that network discs that have to be backed up, have to be divided in projects or other chunks of max. ca. 400 GB. Departments interested in moving their data to C&CZ fileservers should contact postmaster....

After the FNWI data/backup meeting and because of the purchase of a new storage server, C&CZ determined new prices for network discs and for backup. The new prices are ca. 2.5 times lower than the old ones, that were set 4 years ago.
