C&CZ manages a large number of machines that anybody with a Science-account can use. The PCs in the computer labs run Ubuntu Linux; the study area, the library and the laptop pool run Windows, where students can login with their S-number and RU-password.

C&CZ also manages (for departments) workstations with Ubuntu Linux. The computer labs are available for general use by anybody with a Science login, all RU employees and students, and guests with a temporary login.

Study Area & Library of Science

Most of the computers at the Study Area (HG00.201) and the Library of Science (HG00.011) are Windows-only and managed by the ILS. That makes all Windows computers in all RU Study Areas and Library locations uniform. General information about the Library of Science (such as opening hours and reservation of a study place) can be found at the Library of Science website.

Laptops

The faculty has a laptop pool:

  • Library of Science, (HG00.11) 60 managed laptops (HP EliteBook 850 G6 - Core i7-8665U, 16GB, 512B SSD, 15.6" Full HD) with Windows 11.

Installing a new PC

When installing a new PC you have several options.

  • If the PC is not connected to the network, C&CZ can offer little or no help to install your PC. You can borrow DVD/CD’s with a Windows Operating system and application software like MS-Office, etc from C&CZ.
  • If the PC is connected to the network via a (PXE enabled) network interface, a fully automated installation of Windows with standard applications is possible. In this case your PC becomes a managed workstation. Also it is possible to install, fully automated, Ubuntu Linux with standard applications on the PC. In both cases contact C&CZ to register your PC.

Buying a PC

Everyone interested in buying a PC will be interested in reading the information about the default supplier of PCs. C&CZ can help with the installation or do this completely.

Repairing a PC

Repairs can be ordered through C&CZ, within and outside the warranty period. Warranty terms depend on the supplier (e.g. 3 years for Dustin); the user is responsible for any costs, and repairs over € 125 require owner approval.
