1407: NFS problems under investigation

When we moved the gateways of our networks from the old location to the new firewalls, we have received some complaints about NFS filesystems having slowness, longer delays or unavailability. In general NFS should never be a requirement for a clusternode job if you can avoid it, because this I/O is always much slower than local I/O from /scratch. We are investigating how we can optimise the network to resolve this issue, but we are hard pressed to know the exact cause of the problem....

1415: Clusternode maintenance day - February 6th 2026

Every half year we do clusternode maintenance, with at least a package ugprade and a reboot, but sometimes other maintenance can happen, such as changes in filesystems or network configurations. The upcoming date for this maintenance is February 6th, 2026 (Friday)

1326: Radboud internet 30 minutes down for maintenance Friday April 21 18:30-20:30

RU ILS Connectivity announced that Friday April 21 between 18:30 and 20:30 the RU network would be separated from the internet for a period of ca 30 minutes, in order to carry out maintenance.

1325: Cancelled: GitLab down April 21 10:00-12:00 (maintenance)

Friday`April 21 at 10 o’clock C&CZ will commence a GitLab server migration. During the migration, working with Gitlab will not be possible. Because Mattermost is running on the same installation of Gitlab, it will be unavailable during the process as well. We expect things to be up and running again around noon.

1324: FNWI network maintenance Wednesday April 12 19:00-23:00 Huygens in/near wing 8

RU ILS Connectivity announced that network maintenance will be carried out next Wednesday evening that will cause short disturbances of network connectivity for wired and wireless systems in and around wing 8 Huygens on all floors. For wired network outlets, one can check whether they will be affected by looking at the outlet number (starting with 113- for affected systems) or visiting FNWI ethergids.

1323: FNWI network maintenance Wednesday April 5 19:00-23:00 Huygens in/near wing 7

1321: Poster printer kamerbreed broken

March 20, the poster printer kamerbreed started producing bad colours. The new print heads that were received a fw days later didn’t solve the problem. Therefore we called for a repair, that will probably be scheduled in the week of April 17. In the meantime, users that need posters could go to Radboud Post&Print.

1320: FNWI network maintenance Wednesday March 8 19:00-23:00 Goudsmit/NMR and Nanolab

RU ILS Connectivity announced that network maintenance will be carried out next Wednesday evening that will cause short disturbances of network connectivity for wired and wireless systems in Goudsmit/NMR and Nanolab. For wired network outlets, one can check whether they will be affected by looking at the outlet number (starting with 72- or 116- for affected systems) or visiting FNWI ethergids.

1318: No ip address on the wired network in Huygens

The network configuration change of Thursday evening caused wired network connections to fail getting an IP address. The wireless network didn’t have that problem. Technically, the dhcp options we’re using were not yet allowed on the new distribution switch (DR-H). Update: the problem should be resolved, but in case of problems, please try rebooting the machine to resolve the issue.

Because of problems and reacheability machine rebooted. Cause of problem remains unknown.
