Every half year we do clusternode maintenance, with at least a package ugprade and a reboot, but sometimes other maintenance can happen, such as changes in filesystems or network configurations. The upcoming date for this maintenance is February 6th, 2026 (Friday)

Sunday evening, one of the archive disks failed. The data on it was lost, as it wasn’t in a redundant setup. After the weekly reboot, the server hung on this disk being broken. It took us a while to get the server up again.
Due to maintenance the wifi network on campus (Eduroam) will not be available for twenty minutes on Monday night between 10 pm and 8 pm. During those twenty minutes your mobile device appears to be connected with the wifi network but you will notice there is no internet connection. After this interruption the connection will be established automatically. During the maintenance period additional short interruptions may occur. Monday evening the wifinetwork will be placed behind the new firewalls of the Radboud University. When this is done, users of Eduroam on our campus are no longer directly reachable from the Internet. We are doing this to protect wifi users against viruses like the Wannacry virus that was used for the worldwide ransomware attack last week. ...
Switch es7-huyg-04-070 of a server rack became powerless after maintenance in the computer room of C&CZ. Restoring power and powering up the switch resolved all problems.
Between 23:30 and 00:30 the fixed phones will be out of service for about half an hour. Between 00.30 and 02.00 hours, a few minutes of internet interruption will take place. At those moments, RU services can not be accessed from outside the campus.
The central network switch in the serverroom at the Faculty of Science will be restarted in connection with some software maintenance. Many servers and services are not available for approx 20 minutes.
The RU wifi network (eduroam) will be unavailable on Monday evening April 24 between 23:00 and midnight for half an hour due to maintenance work.
An unattended update of the virtual hosting software (libvirt) triggered a netwerk stack restart. This made the virtual machines unavailable on the network. After a reboot of the virtual hosts (vos and wolf), the virtual machines were available again. Action was not taken immediately, because the alarm mails didn’t reach us, because the mailservers could not be reached. To improve this situation, steps are taken to route the alarms also via alternative channels (sms, whatsapp, signal, etc). Also the network configuration of the virtual machines has been changed, this will hopefully make it less vulnerable to these updates. ...
The printer has to be repaired, but the engineer can’t easily fix it. We hope to have the printer operational again in the near future. A new one with service contract has been ordered, in order to make the poster service more reliable. In the meantime you might use the RU copyshop.
Coma00 serves astro0, astro1, astro3 and astro4 volumes, the server crashed on a kernel-BUG, Monday morning the server was restarted and service resumed normally.
